The Ultimate River Specialist

The Red Paddle Co 9'6" Wild is a dedicated whitewater inflatable paddleboard designed specifically for the unpredictable nature of river running. If you are looking to move beyond flat water and into the world of rapids, standing waves, and technical river descents, this board provides the stability and durability required to do so with confidence. It isn't just a versatile all-rounder; it is a specialist tool built to handle the unique stresses of moving water while keeping the rider upright and in control.

Where it Sits in the Red Paddle Co Range

Within the Red Paddle Co line-up, the 9'6" Wild occupies a very specific niche. While the Ride range is perfect for families and the Sport or Voyager ranges excel at distance, the Wild is shorter, wider, and significantly tougher. It is the natural choice for riders who find the 10'6" Ride too 'long' for tight river turns or too vulnerable to rocky scrapes. If your primary goal is touring on calm lakes, we would point you toward the Red Paddle Co Voyager. However, if you want a board that can bounce off a rock and track through a heavy rapid, this is the one.

Why Choose the 9'6" Wild?

  • Unrivalled Stability: At 34 inches wide, it offers a rock-solid platform that helps you stay balanced when the water gets choppy or aerated.
  • Built to Last: Constructed using MSL technology but reinforced for river use, it handles the abrasions of riverbeds far better than standard inflatables.
  • Agility in Technical Water: The shorter 9'6" length and increased rocker (the curve from nose to tail) allow you to pivot quickly to avoid obstacles.
  • Extreme Stiffness: Featuring the patented RSS battens, this board resists the 'flexing' often felt in inflatables when dropping into troughs or crossing eddy lines.

Is the 9'6" Wild suitable for beginners?

If you are a beginner looking to paddle on canals or lakes, this board might feel a bit slow and "draggy" due to its width and fin setup. However, if you are a beginner specifically to whitewater SUP, this is the safest and most stable platform to learn on.

Can I use a standard leash with this board?

For river paddling, we never recommend a standard ankle leash. You should always use a Quick Release Waist Belt. In moving water, being able to detach from your board instantly is a critical safety requirement.

How does it handle on flat water?

It tracks reasonably well for a short board, but its primary design is for maneuverability. You will find yourself switching sides with your paddle more often than you would on an All-Rounder or Touring board.
