The O’Brien Towable Tube Rope is a simple but essential part of any towable tube setup. It connects your boat to your tube, but more importantly, it needs to be correctly rated for the number of riders and the total load you are towing.

This is not the part of the package to guess on. O’Brien offers dedicated 2-person and 4-person options, so you can choose the right rope for your towable rather than relying on a generic line that may not be suitable.

If you are buying a towable tube, ringo or boat toy from The SUP Company, this rope is the finishing piece that helps complete your setup properly.

Which O’Brien Towable Tube Rope Do I Need?

The right choice depends on the size and rider capacity of your towable. As a simple rule, match the rope rating to the maximum number of riders the tube is designed to carry.

  • 2 Person Tube Rope: Best for 1-person and 2-person towables, with a maximum total rider weight of 340lbs.
  • 4 Person Tube Rope: Best for 3-person and 4-person towables, with a maximum total rider weight of 680lbs.

For larger tubes, we would always recommend stepping up to the correctly rated rope. It gives you more confidence, keeps the setup aligned with the tube capacity, and avoids under-specifying one of the most important parts of the towing system.

Why Choose The O’Brien Towable Tube Rope?

  • Correctly rated for towable use: Designed specifically for pulling inflatable towables behind a boat.
  • Available in 2-person and 4-person options: Makes it easier to match the rope to your tube size and rider load.
  • 60ft rope length: Gives a practical towing distance behind the boat for a fun, controlled ride.
  • A safer choice than guessing: Using a rope with the correct rider rating is an important part of setting up a towable properly.
  • Ideal spare or replacement rope: A sensible upgrade if your existing rope is worn, damaged or not clearly rated.

FAQs

Which O’Brien Towable Tube Rope should I choose?

Choose the 2-person rope for 1-person and 2-person towables. Choose the 4-person rope for 3-person and 4-person towables. The aim is to match the rope rating to the maximum capacity of the tube, not just the number of people you expect to tow on one session.

Can I use the 2-person rope on a 3-person tube?

No, we would not recommend that. A 3-person tube should use the 4-person rope because the load can quickly exceed what a 2-person rope is designed for.

Can I use the 4-person rope on a smaller tube?

In most cases, yes. The 4-person rope is the stronger option and can be used with smaller towables, but the 2-person rope is usually the neatest match for 1-person and 2-person tubes.

Is this rope suitable for wakeboarding or waterskiing?

This rope is intended for towable tubes. Wakeboarding and waterskiing normally use different ropes and handles, so we would recommend choosing equipment designed specifically for those sports.

Does the rope come with a towable tube?

No. This product is the tow rope only. Towable tubes, pumps and other accessories are sold separately.

Do I need a bridle as well?

That depends on your boat setup. If you are towing from two rear attachment points rather than a central tow point, a suitable bridle can make setup easier and more balanced.

Should I replace an old tow rope?

Yes, if it is frayed, damaged, sun-worn, heavily kinked or you are unsure of its rating. Tow ropes are a key safety part of the setup, so it is worth replacing them before they become a problem.
