Fanatic Carbon Pure 3 Piece Paddle

The Fanatic Carbon Pure 3 Piece Paddle is a practical upgrade from a basic aluminium SUP paddle, combining a 15% carbon composite shaft with a tough ABS blade and a compact three-piece construction. At approximately 995g, it keeps the price sensible while giving a noticeably more refined feel than the heavy alloy paddles commonly supplied with entry-level inflatable paddleboards.

Its three-piece design makes it particularly well suited to inflatable SUP owners. Break it down after paddling and it can be packed alongside your board, pump and leash rather than needing to travel separately in the car.

Carbon composite construction explained

Despite the Carbon Pure name, this is not a full-carbon performance paddle. The shaft uses a 15% carbon composite construction, giving it some of the weight and stiffness advantages of carbon without pushing it into the price bracket of Fanatic's higher-carbon paddles.

This makes the Carbon Pure particularly appealing if the aluminium paddle supplied with your first SUP feels heavy or cumbersome, but you do not yet need an expensive lightweight carbon touring or race paddle.

The blade is made from impact-resistant ABS rather than carbon. That is an advantage for recreational paddling, where blades inevitably encounter gravel beaches, river banks and shallow water. A full-carbon blade can deliver greater performance at a much higher price, but it also deserves considerably more care.

Who is it best for?

We would recommend the Carbon Pure to recreational paddlers, inflatable SUP owners and anyone replacing a basic aluminium paddle. It is especially useful for holidays and travelling because all three sections can be packed with your inflatable board.

It also makes a very sensible match for boards such as the Fanatic Fly Air Pure and Fanatic Ray Air Pure, where portability and straightforward recreational performance matter more than outright race-paddle stiffness.

If you paddle long distances regularly, race, train for fitness or simply want the lightest possible paddle, we would look further up the range. Higher-carbon constructions reduce swing weight and generally provide a more direct response. You can compare the alternatives in our SUP paddle collection.

Why paddle weight matters

A difference of a few hundred grams may not sound significant when holding a paddle in the shop, but the paddle is lifted and accelerated thousands of times during a longer session. Reducing unnecessary paddle weight can therefore make paddling feel considerably less tiring.

At around 995g, the Carbon Pure is designed as a durable, affordable step up rather than an ultralight paddle. Regular distance paddlers will benefit more from investing in a lighter, higher-carbon model, while recreational paddlers may prefer the Carbon Pure's combination of price, durability and portability.

Three-piece or two-piece paddle?

Choose the Carbon Pure three-piece if you have an inflatable SUP, limited storage space or regularly travel with your board. A two-piece paddle can offer a slightly cleaner and stiffer feel because there is one fewer joint, but it will not pack inside most inflatable SUP bags.

Frequently asked questions

How much does the Fanatic Carbon Pure 3 Piece Paddle weigh?

The published weight is approximately 995g. This positions it as a durable recreational carbon-composite paddle rather than an ultralight full-carbon model.

Is the Fanatic Carbon Pure a full-carbon paddle?

No. The shaft is made from a 15% carbon composite construction and the blade is ABS. This keeps the paddle affordable and durable while offering a more refined construction than a basic aluminium paddle.

What is the paddle blade made from?

The blade is made from durable ABS. This is particularly useful for recreational SUP because it tolerates everyday knocks and occasional contact with beaches or shallow water better than a more delicate high-performance carbon blade.

How long is the paddle?

The Carbon Pure adjusts from approximately 165cm to 220cm, giving plenty of adjustment for different paddler heights and paddling styles.

Will it fit in an inflatable paddleboard bag?

Yes. The three-piece construction is specifically suited to inflatable SUPs and travel. Once separated into its three sections it can normally be packed alongside the deflated board and other accessories.

Is it worth upgrading from an aluminium paddle?

For most regular paddlers, yes. An aluminium paddle can be perfectly adequate for occasional use, but a carbon-composite shaft generally gives a more pleasant feel and avoids the cold, heavy character of a basic alloy shaft. For frequent touring or fitness paddling, consider moving further up to a lighter, higher-carbon paddle.
