Beschreibung

The AXIS Pocket Trench is a purpose-built foil board for riders running Foil Drive Gen 2 who want the benefits of an under-deck assist system, without the “bulky trench board” feel. AXIS have engineered a recessed pocket that lets the Foil Drive unit tuck neatly beneath the deck, keeping water flow cleaner, reducing drag, and keeping your stance feeling natural.

If you’re serious about assisted surf foiling, pump sessions, or short-board style riding with Foil Drive, this is one of the cleanest solutions we’ve seen.

Where it sits in the AXIS board range

This is the compact, performance-led option in the AXIS/Foil Drive ecosystem. At 40L, it’s aimed at riders who already know they want a smaller board and a more direct feel.

  • Choose the Pocket Trench if you want the least compromise Foil Drive integration with a compact outline and minimal drag.
  • Prefer more stability / easier starts? Look at the AXIS Frank Mini Dart for a more forgiving platform.
  • Want max efficiency for light-wind winging or downwind-style glide? The AXIS Frank Mako Downwind is the specialist tool.
  • Pure pump/dock focus (no wind days)? The AXIS Dock 999 is all about repetition and progression.

Why choose the Pocket Trench

  • Cleaner hydrodynamics: a recessed pocket design that avoids the drag and disturbance of a full-depth trench.
  • Feels like a “normal” board: riding position stays natural, so you’re not constantly adapting your stance.
  • Quick, tidy setup: one-piece slider T-nut system makes positioning fast and repeatable.
  • Reliable controller signal: reinforcement in key zones is designed to help avoid the signal frustrations some full-carbon boards can create.
  • Compact performance shape: built for speed, responsiveness and tight turning once you’re up and flying.

Compatibility

The AXIS Pocket Trench is designed in collaboration with Foil Drive and is compatible with Foil Drive Gen 2 systems, including the Gen 2.5 Foil Drive FUSION.

If you’re building an AXIS + Foil Drive setup, you’ll also want to look at the Foil Assist Systems collection and the AXIS Integrated Foil Drive Masts.

FAQs

Is the AXIS Pocket Trench only for Foil Drive riders?

It’s designed specifically around Foil Drive integration. If you’re not running Foil Drive, you’ll usually be better served by a standard AXIS foil board without the pocket system. If you’re unsure, tell us your setup and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Will it work with my Foil Drive Gen 2 system?

Yes – it’s designed to be compatible with Foil Drive Gen 2 systems, including the Gen 2.5 Foil Drive FUSION. If you want us to sanity-check compatibility with your exact parts, just drop us a message.

Is 40L too small for me?

40L is a deliberately compact, performance-oriented volume. It’s best for riders who already know they can manage a smaller board (or who are stepping down). If you want easier starts and more comfort in messy conditions, the AXIS Frank Mini Dart is often the smarter choice.

What’s the real advantage over a full trench board?

The Pocket Trench approach is all about cleaner water flow and less drag, while keeping the board feeling more “normal” under your feet. It’s a more refined solution for riders who care about efficiency and feel.

Do I need footstraps on this board?

Not always. Many riders go strapless for simplicity, but straps can be useful for control (especially if you’re pushing speed or riding more aggressively). If you want them, the AXIS Foil Board Straps are purpose-built for foiling.

Can you help me choose the right Foil Drive kit and mast position?

Absolutely. Give us a quick outline of your weight, experience, foil choice and where you ride, and we’ll recommend a sensible setup. You can also visit us at Lymington or book the Woodmill Test Centre for hands-on guidance.
